Have Ethics & Tolerance Become a Lost Art?
As we watch the news and read the newspaper, we see headlines about everything ranging from senseless and random acts of violence to the mail being slowed down just before the next Presidential election. On any given day, you can become stressed out just from hearing bits and pieces of not such good news around us.
We should ask ourselves the following questions:
Has tolerance and respect for mankind become a lost art?
Are morals and values still being taught in the home?
What resources are available to youth and seniors during this COVID-19 global pandemic as the summer ends and school year starts?
We are currently facing two major challenges in our society. First and foremost, school districts, colleges and universities throughout the United States have been forced to create a hybrid education model consisting of limited classroom instruction if at all combined with virtual learning. How will the students and school staff be held accountable in terms of complying with wearing a mask and washing their hands throughout the day? Will the safety measures and safeguards that are implemented to enforce social distancing be enough to prevent a spike in COVID-19 cases?
Secondly, some businesses have opted not to have staff report back in the office until January 1, 2021 and some senior centers have yet to reopen. With that being said, a vast amount of businesses realize that employees have been productive working from home and that they are generating more revenue than when the COVID-19 pandemic started back in March.
Now more than ever ethics and tolerance are essential in our personal lives, as well as in school districts, colleges and universities, businesses whether small or large, houses of worship, and all other industries. We must learn how to co-exist and continue to focus on diversity and inclusion for all people despite race, ethnicity, religion, socioeconomic status, political party and/or sexuality. We can conquer this by reinstituting virtual workshops and executive coaching sessions that focus on tolerance, diversity and inclusion, and cultural competencies.
